TLR Coaching Monthly Newsletter

I have a confession to make.  I have not done my taxes.  Okay, okay, okay, I’m sure I am not the only one.  I have at least started getting all the paperwork together, which includes doing the accounting.  I have been doing my own taxes every since our family CPA stopped doing them form me and told me to do them myself.  Well, I did have a degree in Accounting, so I was definitely qualified.  I didn’t like it at first, but it was the best thing he could have done.  Yes, the Tax Man Cometh.  For me too!

April 15th will be here before you know it.  Well next week to be exact.  I have put together a list of mistakes that could cost you money, delay your refund or even cause an audit.  And we certainly don’t want any of that.  So here we go.

  1. Wrong or missing social security numbers.  Make sure that all Social Security numbers for you, your spouse and your dependents have been entered accurately and as shown on the social security cards.
  2. Wrong names.  Be sure you spell the names exactly as they are on their social security card.
  3. Wrong bank account numbers.  If you are anticipating a refund, you may want it direct deposited into your bank account. If you changed banks during 2014, update your banking information with your tax professional.
  4. Filing status errors.  Are you using the correct filing status? If you are single you may qualify as Head of Household.
  5. Forms not signed.  An unsigned tax return is like an unsigned check –it is not valid.  Both spouses must sign if filing a joint return.
  6. Not filing on time.  You should file on time to avoid a late filing penalty.  Pay as much as you can.  The more you pay , the less you will owe in interest and late penalties.
  7. Errors in figuring credits or deductions.
  8. Electronic pin errors.  When you e-file, you sign your return electronically with a Personal Identification Number.  If you know last year’s e-file PIN, you can use that.  If you don’t know it, you can use the Adjusted Gross Income from 2013’s tax return that you originally filled with the IRS.  Do not use the AGI amount from an amended return or a return that the IRS has corrected.

I hope you have found these tips helpful.  If you found all of this to be overwhelming, let me help you.  I am willing to give you a coaching session.  I will not do you like my family CPA did me.  I am here to help.  Reply to this newsletter to get started.

There’s no doubt about it, money is the #1 thing that couples fight about.

And it’s not just couples…every day people yell at their kids over money, argue during professional negotiations, and fight with their friends over petty amounts of cash. All of those bad feelings build up over time, until the prevailing tone becomes one of ill will, and the central theme that runs through all these arguments is the BELIEF that THERE’S JUST NOT ENOUGH.

Aren’t you tired of that story? Aren’t you ready to let go of those limiting beliefs and live a life of abundance, peace & prosperity?

After all, why let something as silly as dollars and cents ruin the most important relationships in your life?

Fortunately, money is really quite a simple game. We’re the ones that make it seem complicated.  So let’s un-complicate…de-mystify…set the record straight & get back to basics, so that we can enjoy our money and preserve our meaningful relationships.
